One of the original counties. The name was derived from the name of an Indian tribe or village near Knights Landing. A "rancho del Ioleo or de Dioleo" is shown on Bidwell's map of 1844. Captain Yolo of the rancheria on Tomales Bay, mentioned in 1810, has probably nothing to do with the name of the county.
